Alexis DeJesus

Alexis is a designer, artist, and writer based in Richmond, Virginia. During the day they design websites and during the night she studies living on them. His interests stem from examining cultural systems and gender as sieved through digital life, and how we interact with this completely new plane of consciousness made tactile through interfaces. They play in intersections of research based theory and openly disseminated low culture, especially in the context of the internet, “fan” spaces, queer identities, and experimental publishing.

Alexis mostly known for BUTCHVERSE, which consists of collections of critical essays, art, and short comics where she writes about intersections of gender (and misogyny) in fandom, big-two comics, transness (which is the angle he approaches butchness from), and analysis of the specific characters. The first one is titled “for every day there are not enough butch characters I take a male one and make them a DYKE. ft. Daredevil & The Punisher”, and the sequel is “butchverse 2: THE(Y/HE/SHE) DOUJINSHI (still) ft. Daredevil & The Punisher”. Butchverse is friendly to an audience that doesn’t have a whole lot of knowledge about gender theory/politics, but has an open and interested mind. Practically zero knowledge of Marvel comics is needed.
